My current work is all about exploration and experiences, the exploration of myself the artist, but maybe even more the exploration of the visitors engaging with the work.
The sculptures are characterised by careful surface treatment and particular attention to detail. The result is that the intimacy of the surface entices the viewer to assess it so minutely that the wholeness of the work is lost in the abstractedness of its detail.
The aim of the work is to encourage and persuade the observer to interact with the work thus becoming part of the installation. During this engagement between object and spectator, the objects visual and physical stimulus may manipulate the observer’s perception of the object.
Sensation is normally the description which we give for our visual experiences which are descriptions of what we see and how we see it. Vision is a form of perception. When we describe our visual experiences we normally describe what we see or take ourselves to see. We may be likely to call an experience a sensation in so far as it is relatively passive and forced upon us. But we may sometimes be forced to perceive something in a certain way also. Sensation must have or attract our attention.
‘I think there is something fascinating about stimulating the senses’.
